Description

These Sight & Sound Sensory Cards were the perfect little something for my little one to “grow on” from birth. Each part of this ensemble has a high contrast black and white print on one side – great for little eyes and growing brains. I would hang one from her car seat as a something fun to look at while we traveled – for the “Sight” component. The reverse side has one of six colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple. Each of the colored fabrics has a different look and feel – they are textured to add a “Touch” component. For added texture and play there are four coordinating colored ribbons hanging from the sides – perfect for little hands to find once finger investigation and coordination are the modes to discovery. Not only are they finger and eye-candy but, when you shake them, they each have a different “musical” sound. So, when little explorers become interested in cause and effect, it’s a great reward for moving hands. A grow-with-me toy, even still…the colors, textures, and sounds make great conversation pieces and vocabulary building. Circles, Squares, Diamonds, Colors, Numbers, Counting, and Sound complete this whimsically sweet Sensorial Set – sure to elicit a giggle and inquisitive fiddle from your little one.

Each part of this ensemble has batting inside to help it hold it’s shape and has been double topstitched for durability.
Each card can be hung from a stroller or car seat with a link.

Limited quantities are available. Once I run out, I may choose different colors/textures/patterns – however, the rainbow will always be represented and the reverse sides will always have a high contrasting, black and white print.

This cute collection was made for my little one as part of my nesting project when I was pregnant. I wanted something I could bring to the hospital with me. I wanted it to be something she could appreciate later, something to grow into as she developed. I remember a couple days after she was born I showed her the cards, made by Mama with love. It delights me to no end seeing my children play with things I’ve created. Her favorite one was the black/white/red with the bell inside. I don’t know if it was the sound or how the red popped with the black and white but she would stare and ogle it in the brief time she was awake (and not nursing!)

All of my creations were made with your little one in mind. Each piece was designed to nurture child development through open-ended play. These pieces can be used to broaden your little one’s understanding and knowledge of our world and were created as early educational toys. I am inspired by the teachings of Montessori; the natural beauty of Waldorf; and incorporate a myriad of other learning-through-play philosophies when I design. It makes me smile to see my made-with-love pieces being toted for use as preschool toys and in natural play settings. Thank you for helping me support little minds, bodies, and imaginations through engaging, hands-on play and discovery.

Founder and principle designer, Jessica Perkins, has been creating for as long as she can remember, originally helping her mama with her handmade toy store over 20 years ago. With the birth of her children, and all the new little people in her life, Jessica found herself searching for toys that met her educational and design standards.

Inspired by these little explorers, and her understanding of Montessori and Waldorf methodologies, Jessica Perkins began making all of her creations with the belief that children make sense of their world through sensing their world. After years of making, creating, and gifting her creations to friends and family, Jessica decided to start selling her goodies. Since the launch of Mama May i in 2009, Jessica’s passion for artistic expression through toys has blossomed into a business supported by mama’s and papa’s all over the world.

With this learning through play philosophy in mind, Mama May i encourages kids, both big and small, to dive in, make a splash, a scribble, or an inquisitive fiddle on the memories we share together.
