Description

This is a really fun no-prep activity for homeschoolers or anyone spending time with kids. The game promotes learning, creativity, positivity and bonding. It’s suitable for kids from pre-school to college. (Preschool kids may require a little help.)

Kids are given a list and are tasked with taking a photo of as many items from the list as possible. The list includes concepts and descriptions (something blue, something that makes you happy, etc.) rather than specific items, leaving the actual item up to the child’s interpretation.

The game inspires CREATIVITY
> Photo goals are open to the child’s interpretation and creativity.
> Many photo goals have more than one interpretation – will your child interpret “Something Sweet” as a cookie, Mom, a cute doll, or Dad helping a sibling with homework?

POSITIVITY
> Goals like “Take a photo of something you’ve accomplished” encourage positivity and self-worth.
> Point values (if used) reward positive concepts like “Something you want to learn more about” at a higher value than more neutral photo goals like “Something that is silent.”

LEARNING
> Reinforce concepts of textures, shapes, colors and more for younger kids.
> The points and rewards, if used, reinforce basic math skills and budgeting.

BONDING
> Sharing and talking about the photos promotes bonding. What picture will they take to represent a happy memory, or something they want to learn more about?

This is an EASY activity with virtually NO PREP work on your part. Make sure they have a way to take photos (smart phone, camera, tablet, even an older flip phone that takes pictures will work), make a few quick selections on the spreadsheet (or just go with the defaults) and print out copies.

A built-in rewards and point system can be enabled or disabled.

It is also fully CUSTOMIZABLE. Edit the length of the list, Edit individual rewards and photo goals. Or just leave the default options in place. The printable list will change daily for an easily repeatable activity.

I’m a homeschooling mom, too, and created these spreadsheets for my own purposes before deciding to share them with other families.

Hi! I’m Candace, also known as the Haggard Penguin. I’m a homeschooling mom living on a farm in Southern California. In my spare time I create random spreadsheets to help with our homeschooling, teach my daughter how to write her own VBA scripts, and try to avoid being devoured by orcas (which is honestly not that hard in the desert).

My love language is Excel, so if you ever need a custom spreadsheet, I can work magic with rows and columns. Let me know what you need and I’ll be happy to give you a quote!
